The Process Engineer Associate will join the Bioprocess Engineering group within Technology Development   at Genzyme.  The BioProcess Engineering group is responsible for developing and utilizing new systems, sensors, equipment, process technologies, platform development, and business processes to enable Genzyme to better understand, monitor, control, and plan its manufacturing operations. This group is highly cross-functional in its interactions across research, development, and manufacturing  and  provides scientific , technical,  engineering expertise to these organizations.
 
The incumbent will support Technology Development and other internal groups with development and implementation of new methodologies and technologies for improved process scale-up and scale-down, monitoring and control leading to better process understanding. He/she will ensure that the highest standards of safety, ethical, and environmental compliances are maintained in the workplace.
 
Major Job Responsibilities:
 
Perform experimental studies across diverse areas including heat/mass transfer, mixing, and process characterization.  Support equipment/process validation, and technology transfer from R&D to GMP environment.
 
Participate in evaluating, establishing and implementing new platform technologies, as well as developing standard operation procedures and facilitating technology transfer to multiple sites. 
 
Support development of novel experimental approaches, utilize advanced data analysis tools, and use modeling approaches to enhance process understanding and to assist in process investigation.
 
Support lab planning and management.  Design, construct, and maintain experiment infrastructure to support a broad range of collaborative bioprocess engineering activities.
 
Stay abreast of new development/technologies in areas of responsibility. Attend internal/external technical forums to remain current with technology and regulatory guidelines.
B .S. in (Bio)Chemical Engineering, or related engineering disciplines with 0 -  1  years of experience in the (bio)pharmaceutical industry, in particular in process development of upstream or downstream processes.
 
Demonstrated capability to apply chemical engineering principles to solve real world problems, achieve results quickly, and grasp the underlying technical issues and business needs.
 
Demonstrated ability to plan and execute experiments, analyze data, and draw conclusions through independent thinking and collaboration with team members. He/She must be able to handle multi-tasks effectively and to meet project timelines.
 
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Work effectively and productively in cross-functional, cross-site team environments.
 
 
Preferred:  Multidisciplinary knowledge spanning engineering principles is highly desirable.  Mechanical design (Solidworks), data acquisition (Labview), and programming (Matlab, VBA) experience is a plus.
